Root Canal Dangers

Root Canal DangersAlthough many people are hesitant to undergo any dental procedure, especially a root canal, it is very important to see a dentist at the first sign of trouble before things get too out of hand. Some of the root canal symptoms you may experience include pain upon chewing, increased sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures, discoloration inside the tooth, swelling or tenderness in the nearby gums, and a recurring pimple in the nearby gums. If an infection inside a tooth continues to go untreated for a long period of time, it could ultimately lead to an abscess or systemic infection.

The actual procedure is fairly straightforward, and it is a lot less painful than you probably think. Many patients have said that their root canal treatment was no more painful than getting a dental filling. This is because the dentist will apply a local anesthetic to the area to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. A small hole will be drilled into the tooth, and the infected material will be removed. The remaining space in the tooth is filled, and you will most likely require a crown placed over the tooth in order to strengthen it.
