The length of treatment with Invisalign will vary on a patient-by-patient basis. The main issue that will determine the length of your treatment will be the severity of orthodontic issue that you are trying to correct. Because the entire Invisalign treatment is planned out in advance, your dentist or orthodontist will be able to tell you exactly how long it will take you.
Invisalign uses a system of clear plastic aligners in order to straighten the teeth. Each set of aligners is worn for two weeks before it is replaced with a new set of aligners. Each new set of aligners moves you one step closer to your treatment goal. On average, it usually takes between 20-30 sets of aligners to complete an Invisalign treatment. In some cases it may be a little less, and in some cases it may be a little more. This translates to about a year for most average cases, with most being done at the 18 month mark. These time frames assume that the patient is wearing their aligners for at least 22 hours a day. Failure to wear your aligners for that length of time each day will delay your treatment time.
