How is Dental Bonding Placed on Teeth?

Happy patient

Dental bonding is a solution for many tooth related problems. These problems include decaying teeth, exposed root, gaps, and discolored teeth, among others.

Before the procedure:

Fortunately, there is little preparation needed prior to the dental bonding procedure. You may prefer to be treated with an anesthetic, but it is not often necessary. Your West Hollywood cosmetic dentist will take this time to choose a resin that is closest in color to the shade of your teeth.

During the procedure:

The first step during the actual dental bonding procedure is roughening up the teeth, and applying a conditioning liquid. These both help to allow the bonding resin adhere to the tooth. The resin is then applied, and manipulated to the desired shape in order to match your tooth. Next, an ultraviolet laser is used to harder the resin. Once hardened, your dentist will continue to smooth and shape it in order to achieve a natural look. This will all take between thirty to sixty minutes.

After the procedure:

After care for dental bonding is very similar to your normal dental health care. Continue to brush and floss your teeth twice a day, and remember to use mouth wash. Because the dental bonding resin can chip and break, you should avoid activities such as biting your nails, and chewing on hard food or objects.
