Teeth Whitening at Home

Most of us can remember a time when our smile could light up a room. But years of consuming coffee and a host of other treats have dimmed our smiles from what they once were. Luckily, you can achieve that bright smile again. And it need not cost you a small fortune. There are numerous over-the-counter treatments that you can employ at home, at varying levels of cost and effectiveness. Here is a sampling of a few of them.

Whitening Toothpastes and Rinses

These products remove surface stains from your teeth. They are not as effective as you may desire, though, and are best used as follow-up care after a professional teeth whitening procedure.

Whitening Strips

These strips use hydrogen peroxide to remove the stains on your teeth, and can make your teeth about five shades lighter. You simply apply them to the front surface of your teeth and leave them in place for the specified amount of time.

Whitening Trays

These products use a tray that fits over your teeth. You apply a bleaching gel to the tray, and then place the tray over your teeth for some period of time. In addition to the over-the-counter kits, professional kits are available from our teeth whitening doctor which utilize a custom-fitted tray in conjunction with a professional-quality bleaching gel.

Though these and other similar products are available over-the-counter, it is still a good idea to check with your dentist before using any teeth whitening product.
